The term Avatar originated in Indian mythology. It denotes "god's visit to Earth to fix smth that is broken". Being one of the 3 gods who shield creation, Vishnu visits Earth often. In Hindu mythology Vishnu is depicted dark-blue. James Cameron has also decided to make the aliens blue.
Set in the future (in the year 2154) on an alien planet called Pandora situated the Alpha Centauri star system, Avatar film tells the ever-lasting story of gluttony, immaturity and the ferocity that results from ignorance.
The plot of the story revolves around a soldier - Jack - who goes to Pandora the moon situated in the Alpha Centauri star system to help The Corporation intending to mine and export a precious mineral called unobtainium. The Na'vi are the alien arboreal humonoid species that thrive on Pandora. They are a part of a big symbiotic living system including plants and animals which are all connected by an intricate biological communication network. The Corporation plans to mine the moon and the Na'vi fight against the invaders for their motherland. The expansion of the mining colony menaces the existence of the local tribe.
While on a mission, Jake is taken in by the Na'vi and gets acquainted with their culture, language and habitat. Natirii, the female Na'vi he meets in the forest, helps him through this trip. Jake falls in love with her.
Avatars are biological creations - a mixture of alien and human DNA. They are not self-aware and are controlled by a human being whose DNA they were made from. The soldier takes control of an avatar that is made from his brother's DNA.
AVATAR is an idealistic film showing an ideal world. The end of the movie is especially poignant. The visual effects are spectacular. The alien world Cameron and his professional team display to viewers is one of the most carefully thought-out and consistent. The movie is worth viewing. |
