Fashion is an art that reflects life. Every now and then we hear the names of Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Versace etc. There fashion designers have a great impact upon our hair styles, what we wear, the way we put on make-up and even our habits. Every season gurus of fashion determine our choices of clothing. A fashion calendar includes several very crucial events called fashion weeks. Fashion weeks are organized every season for designers to present their latest collections in runway shows and for fashion conscious people to have a look at the latest trends. Most importantly, they present the fashion industry what is in and what is out for the season. The most prominent fashion weeks are organized in the fashion capitals, including Milan, London, New York and Paris where luxury clothes (also known as haute couture) are shown. Haute Couture is a French term for expensive and fashionable clothes designed for ladies. Couture stands for dressmaking, sewing, or needlework and haute stands for sophisticated. Haute couture clothes are made for a specific customer from high-quality, expensive fabrics and sewn by hand usually using time-consuming techniques. Therefore, couture clothes are luxurious and chic. Depending on the haute couture and the garment, the cost of a couture item varies from $10, 000 for a blouse to $40, 000 and usually beyond that sum. The cost includes payments for the service, work, exclusivity and first-class materials of the highest quality. Besides, every customer will get a garment to fit them ideally. It takes about 100-150 hours to create a handmade luxuty suit and up to 1000 hours for an evening dress embroidered with thousands of beads sewed by hand. A couture house like Chanel, for instance, will have about 150 regular customers buying couture garments, and a couture house like Dior will make around twenty luxury wedding gowns yearly Fashion houses use only luxurious fabrics, including expensive silks, fine wools, cashmeres, cottons, linens, leather, suede and furs. Apart from clothes, well-renowned fashion houses make luxury accessories, including hats, buttons, belts, jewellery, footwear, handbags. Those who can afford couture items are glad to pay for exclusivity and the privacy guaranteed by the system.
